How to get porcupines out from under my shed or deck
Porcupines living under a deck, house, or shed can pose a danger to people and pets due to their quills.
If possible, seal all entry points except the main opening. Monitor porcupine movements out from under the structure. Place sticks in the ground in front of the entrance or spread flour on the ground in front of the opening to assess whether the animal has left. Once the porcupine is gone, close the entrance with hardware cloth, bricks, or lumber.
Bury hardware cloth around the perimeter of any known or potential entrance to a depth of at least twelve inches to keep porcupines and other wildlife from digging their way in.
Laws and regulations to be aware of
While we attempt to provide guidance about state and federal regulations pertaining to specific species and control techniques, we do not provide information about local jurisdictions (city, town, county, etc.) where regulations may be more restrictive, especially as it applies to discharge of firearms, transport of animals or use of trapping equipment. Contact your local city or county government to inquire further. No guarantee is made that information (or lack of information) associated with a species or control technique is completely accurate or current. You should become familiar with federal, state and local laws before beginning any wildlife control activities. |
